The Guardian Generator is from the Generac Power Systems family and boasts of being one of the world’s largest independent manufacturers of engine-driven generator systems; ranging from 3kW to 2mW. Needless to say, these are the big boys. When you need high amperage that is clean, it is important to do your homework and research before you make a final commitment.

According to their self-analysis, their units fit the bill for many situations: industrial, residential, mobile, recreational vehicle, and communications applications.

Essentially, Guardian and Generac are from the same family. You can see our page on Generac Generators.

Having shared that, here’s what people have said about the Guardian Generator.

Good Points: It’s difficult to find any now that it’s let me down for the second time.

Bad Points: The weakest link seems to be the motor, I just had the second motor FAIL after only 27 hours of run time.

General comments: Generac stood behind their product after the motor developed a craving appetite for oil 22 months into the warranty period by replacing the motor. Now less than a year later and only after 27 hours of operation the motor has failed once again. The real question here will be if they step up to the plate and replace the motor once again?

We have had our Guardian 15000 Watt Emergency Automatic Home Standby Generator for almost a year. The over speed light came (is) on. Have tried, with the help of Home Depot where we bought the unit, to get service on it.

It is still under warranty. It has been over three weeks now and no response from Generac. We rue the day we bought this expensive machine, and now cannot use it. I would advise any buyer to beware, and recommend taking your business elsewhere.

All generator units that Guardian ship comes with a 1/2 a quart low on oil. So far I haven’t had a lick of trouble. The most it ran during a power failure was 8 hours, but has run for hours on different power failures. So glad I bought one. I installed the electric myself because the unit had to be placed 80 feet from the electric panel. The unit comes shipped for NG 13KW, but they will ship you the upgrade kit to 15 KW for LP for FREE. Best investment for my house that I spent!

My Guardian 04390 15000 Watt Emergency Automatic Home Standby generator was brand new and professionally installed, but it only ran for two hours when Hurricane Wilma hit.
